500.000 moves for PSA Zeebrugge on CHZ Terminal

The third of December was a historical day for PSA Zeebrugge, because at exactly 1.50 pm, the 500.000 container of the year was handled on the CHZ Terminal. The vessel that delivered the prize container was the CMA CGM Aquila, currently sailing in a service that connects Europe to the Far East.

Last year, the terminal handled a total of 409.000 teu, which means they are looking at a total rise in throughput of over 30% for 2009. Quite the accomplishment, especially in the current climate.

This good news is mainly thanks to the fact that CMA CGM is playing off the Zeebrugge terminal more and more as their number 1 Benelux hub. And on top of the services that already berthed at Zeebrugge, the shipping company added a successful feeder service to the Baltic Sea.

China Shipping and Evergreen also contributed generously to the record, by adding Zeebrugge to their Far East Service, which is good for an extra 9.000 teu per week.

The employees at the terminal are ecstatic with the result and will be aiming even higher next year.
